Antique Edwardian Sapphire Diamond Crescent Brooch 18ct Gold
A fabulous antique Edwardian sapphire diamond crescent brooch, modelled in 18ct white gold. The slender crescent is lined with deep-blue cushion cut sapphires and glittering old mine cut diamonds that graduate in size from tip to tip. There is approx. 1.8ct of sapphire and 0.55ct of diamond across the front.
Celestial jewellery became increasingly sought after during the early 20th Century as people began to look up at the stars and heavens once more with renewed fascination. The crescent moon was a symbol of the Greek God Selene, the feminine moon Goddess and was said to represent change and female empowerment.
This is a stunning Edwardian crescent brooch, dating to the early 1900s. It displays a dazzling collection of precious gems that contrast and complement each other beautifully and is fitted with a double pin and two catches at the back to hold it secure.
