Antique Victorian French Pearl Diamond Crescent Moon Brooch
A stunning antique crescent moon brooch made in France in the late 19th Century. It’s encrusted with an array of twinkling rose cut diamonds (approx. 0.90ct total) and five gleaming natural pearls that graduate in size toward the centre.
Celestial jewellery became increasingly popular during the 19th Century as people began to look up at the stars and heavens once more with renewed fascination. Crescent moons were one popular symbol and were often decorated with pearls due to their spherical shape and exceptional lustre that has long been associated with the beauty and magic of the moon.
The open-work gallery is beautifully ornate with detailed workmanship, leaf motifs and a pierced under gallery. It’s crafted in silver and 18ct gold with a pin at the back, complete with French 18ct eagle hallmarks. It’s a dazzling and captivating piece and in pristine condition.
We recommend you insure for £4,000. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
