Antique Georgian Gemstone Acrostic Ring Spells Regard
A romantic antique Georgian Acrostic ring, featuring a rainbow of multi-coloured gemstones graduating across the front, spelling out the word “REGARD” with each first letter. The gems include a natural Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby and Demantoid Garnet.
The Georgians loved romance and Acrostic jewellery was a popular way to express secret, romantic messages spelt out in gemstones to their beloved during a time when there were strict rules and restrictions surrounding a couple’s courtship. “REGARD” forms part of the phrase “I highly regard you” and expresses to your loved one that you hold them very close to your heart.
The piece is crafted in 18ct yellow gold and features a closed back gallery, with cannetille workmanship around the edges and a braided band, with small forget me nots on each shoulder, representing eternal love and faithfulness.
This rare Georgian Acrostic ring dates to the early 19th Century and has remained in excellent condition. It would make a wonderful gift for a loved one, reviving an old Georgian tradition that’s lost none of its charm.
