Vintage 9ct Gold Snake Collar Necklace Ruby Eyes Smith And Pepper Dated 1979
A fabulous Egyptian inspired snake collar made by Smith & Pepper in the 1970s. The silky band is all 9ct gold and has an ingenious design that expands and slithers fluidly. The serpent's head and tail unite at the bottom, symbolising eternal love and have been decorated with engraved patterning and two pink ruby eyes.
Smith & Pepper was founded by Mr. Smith and his Uncle Mr. Pepper who were based in the Birmingham Jewellery quarter from 1899 to 1981. They were renowned for their high-quality jewellery, most notably Egyptian themed snake designs, which grew in popularity after the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922.
It’s a classic design and is held securely by a box clasp and safety catch at the end, complete with the maker’s mark and Birmingham hallmarks, dating it to 1979.
