Antique Victorian Figaro Albert Chain 9ct Gold
A fine antique Victorian figaro Albert chain from the late-19th Century modelled in solid 9ct gold which has developed a lovely rosy patina over time. It’s made up of long, twisted figaro links and smaller curb links, each stamped “375/ 9ct”.
Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.
It's a classic design and a good solid chain, complete with two claw clasps and a T-Bar at the bottom, both bearing maker’s marks.
We recommend you insure for £3,500. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
