An impressive antique French diamond pearl bangle from the late 19th Century featuring an open-work gallery at the front, with a line of ivy leaves chasing across the centre. They’re decorated with twinkling rose-cut diamonds (approx. 1.2ct total) and bordered by a line of bright white seed pearls above and below.

Ivy was a popular jewellery motif in the 19th Century, representing a loving, unbreakable bond, as in the Victorian rhyme “Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee”. This sentiment is further emphasised by the pearls and diamonds which were also used to express eternal love and loyalty.

The thick band is made up of four connected rings and has developed a lovely smoothness and rosy patina over time. It’s modelled in 18ct gold with silver stone settings at the front.

It’s all in excellent condition and displays exquisite French workmanship and gleaming gemstones. It’s fitted with a concealed box clasp at the side, stamped with French gold hallmarks.

We recommend you insure for £3,300. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
